First Two Dolls

Hmmmm..... maybe I was a little more hungry than I thought! Actually, I'm exploring the metaphor of women as items of consumption. I love the 'grab and go' line on the Pringles can. And the Chunky Soup is Prime Rib- maybe I should put a little necklace on the doll that says 'Eve'. I have run out of dolls to alter, though. (I'll have to make a trek to Value Village soon.) I also made two more dolls that have salt and pepper shakers for heads- the shakers are in the shape of chickens. Here, Chicky! (Click on the image for the super-sized view!)

So here we go. I'm starting to create the dolls for my art show. I have to do the front window AND the exhibiting wall at ARTspace. The front window will be all the altered dolls, with pictures in the background of a naked doll posing on the beach.

I make a very interesting party guest.

Least Expect It

Where You'd Least Expect It

This is another one of the prints I have produced. Hopefully, with another session of printmaking classes coming up in January, I will create lots more for my ARTspace opening in April. I'm really enjoying the way that photo collage looks when it is turned into a print. And, with the gang I take printmaking with, I am also having fun!

Holy Hot Peppers

Ah, yes, the rumours you may have heard are true! I am going to have my own show at ARTspace.

It will feature photos like the one above, plus some prints I've made in printmaking class, and probably a video installation of Muffy! Muffy is a doll who has featured in many of my photographs. She had her own naked model shoot down at the beach last summer, and some of her shots will also be in the show. Now she's going to star in a video. Oh yes.

The date? Thursday, April 9th, 2009 at 7pm. Mark the date on your calendars and prepare to be amazed!

You'll never think the same way again about your kids' action figures.

Eye For Art 2008

Laurie and art friend Linda at Eye for Art

Yippee! I decided to submit "Adventures in Growing Up" to Eye for Art.

And it sold!

I'm going to be experimenting with the collage/print thing more, as I am liking where it is going. The shadowbox that I also submitted, "Forgiveness", got a lot of, 'what were you thinking when you made THAT?' Well, at least it generated discussion.

Here's an unauthorized photo of me and a fellow artist at Eye For Art. We are discussing the finer points of colour theory. It was a very long and involved discussion.

So, my goal over the Christmas holidays (which, for me, consists of about 3 days) is to create more collage/print combos. I am hoping to have my own show at the gallery ARTspace in 2009 and I am going to start preparing.
