Accepted!

another cool margarine shot

I was accepted into Eye for Art 2012!  The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills will hit the wall of the Thames Art Gallery sometime during the next few days.  Opening night is October 27th, and I am excited because having the event so close to Hallowe'en means I get to dress up.  Any celebration that does NOT centre around food or gift-giving is my kind of celebration.

In the meantime, I am posting another cool margarine shot that I took last week.  I have a series of 9 so far.  At the rate my family consumes Becel, I will have a new set of margarine shots every month.  I am looking forward to figuring out what exactly I'm going to do with these images.  For now, I find them amusing and vaguely sexual.  At some point in the future, I'm sure this series will translate into something interesting.  Imagine the above image 4 feet wide........!

Housewives!

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

You'll have to click on the image to get the full effect.  This collage is the biggest one I've ever done-  almost 7 feet long with the frame (not shown).

I have just submitted "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" to Eye for Art, the biennial juried art show at the Thames Art Gallery.  We'll see if the Juror, Jose Seoane, likes it!

In Christianity, people deified Mary who happened to be the mother of Jesus.  She was a vessel, a mother, and a housewife.  In our time, people deify the wives of rich men.  Neither Mary nor the Housewives have ever done anything particularly spectacular.  They have become Gods or figures of worship simply due to their association with influential men.  Mary and the Housewives haven't contolled their own destiny.

There are 14 Virgin Marys in the collage.  There isn't any significance to that number.  I just found 14 really cool Virgin Mary etchings in a very old book from 1874, and I treated them like paper dolls, giving them different outfits that I cut out from fashion magazines.  They're flat and 2-dimensional, much like the stars of the reality TV show, "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills".  To many people, fame is the new religion. The Cult of Celebrity.

The opening for Eye for Art is taking place on October 27th, but I should know by next week if "Housewives" is accepted.
